The International Congress on “Covid-19 and Dehumanization” held online in Siena (7-9 October 2021), represented a unique opportunity to study the phenomenon of denatality and its economic and social consequences, increasingly evident during the crisis associated with the outbreak of Covid-19. The first session focused on Covid’s clinical effects, vaccinations, monoclonal antibodies, immune defenses and new therapeutic approaches with contributions from Italian and international experts. The birth rate decrease and its socio-economic consequences in Europe and in other parts of the world were on the agenda of the second day. In the final session, participants analyzed the pandemics’ impact on hospitals and places of culture as well as the increase in social inequalities under a historical and humanistic-religious perspective in comparison with past pandemics, with particular reference to the history of Siena at the time of St Catherine. The Congress was under the patronage of the University of Siena, the Tuscany Region, the Municipality and Province of Siena, and scientific societies related to the topics covered.
